There are a few questions and issues that popped up.įor me personally, I am not really interested in the game part of Subnautica. Unfortunately, I din't have a mic to voice my thoughts, so I will try and post as many as I can remember here. I was just thinking about Early Access release for Subnautica as I was playing around on my Subnautica stream yesterday. Like having to actually work together (maybe finding bigger parts that can't be moved alone), interacting with sea creatures or diving races (challenging factors could be currents or geographical factors (like caves). Will their be any multiplayer / co-op during the SEA? If yes then I'd advise providing little mini activities to bond players to each other and the game. Also it's easier to refine things in a smaller scope than the whole game. This way the player can test the individual mechanics without spoiling the game. Also modules that will not affect later gameplay at all. Having backed Star Citizen I must say I'm really happy with their approach, releasing smaller but seemingly more refined modules first. This is really important - in fact if players had access to the big achievements they'd quickly lose interest in the game or rate it bad based on their experience. But it likely will be one of the first big features we work on very soon after SEA release. The sub is really cool, and there are a lot of gameplay elements that go along with it, that will take a fair amount of time to implement. We also want to take the time to do the Cyclops justice, and not rush it out half finished.

We can make it clear to players when we release SEA that they will eventually be able to construct a full sub, and that there will be a lot more tech to craft as well, and we feel they will be understanding if the foundation of the game is there and they are having fun with it and seeing where things are going.

We really want to convey to players what kind of game Subnautica will be and what direction it's going in. There are still many core game mechanics that we need to add first, that are more important in the overall scope of the game. We are itching to add the Cyclops sub as well, but it is looking pretty unlikely to go into the game in time for the start of Steam Early Access. At least one full sub should be implemented before "early release" starts.
